This morning when I woke up I was so stiff and sore. It is the stiffest I have ever been after a hard run. I guess it is an indication how hard I ran yesterday.
This morning I did 10 miles very easy just to loosen up. I did feel much beter after I finished.
I spent a lot of time while I was running today thinking about what I want out of running in the future.
I reached my summer goal yesterday much sooner than I had expected. I am not sure now what to do for the rest of the summer.
I really envy Mr. Murphy on the blog. He is always running in the coolest places. Around campgrounds, up trails, he sees moose and deer, he soaks in the canals. I would really love to do something like that. He runs to the top of mountains just to get a good view. I really like that.
I am thinking I need a mental break from running intervals and running for time. I would like to run long runs and just enjoy everything around me. When I want to run fast I will run fast, and when I feel like running slow I will. If I want to stop and look at a flower or pet a dog I will. I need to get back to what I really love about running for a while.
Anyway, that is what I was thinking about on my run today.
Ran a very easy 5 miles today.
It was so humid out this morning, and there were like flying ants all over everywhere.
I ran 10 miles this mormning with spurts of varying lengths of fast running mixed in. My body still seems to be tired from last Friday.
This afternoon I went to the fitness center and ran 5 miles on the treadmill. It was over 90% humidity outside today, so I decided not to run outside.
Ran 10 miles this morning in the high humidity. When I started my legs just didn't want to move, so I went really slow, but they eventually loosened up and I was able to run a much better pace at the end.
I ran the stairs to the 14th floor at the apartment building 10 times today after my run. I have had a goal to build up to 10 times before I go back to the USA. I fianlly was able to do it today. When I started running the stairs I could barely do them 7 times. I have gradually worked up to 10 times. They have gotten much easier to do, so I know that I have developed strength in my legs from doing them.
Did an easy 5 miles in the afternoon.
I ran 10 miles this morning. I ran 2 minutes fast and hard and then 2 minutes easy, I repeated that for 10 miles. It was so humid again this morning, that I got blisters on my feet. I usually put band-aids on my feet before I leave, but I forgot this morning. Ouch!
I ran 5 miles in the afternoon on the treadmill.
Ran an easy 10 miles this morning. The blisters on my feet from yesterday were hurting bad today. I put some band-aids on them this morning, so I was able to run, but it hurt.
I learned a big lesson. By taking couple of seconds of prevention before the run yesterday could have kept me from having so much pain today. The blisters almost made me have to take a rest day.
5 miles on the treadmill in the afternoon.
Ran 10 easy miles this morning, and then after ran the stairs at the apartment building up to the 14th floor 10 times.
I have been building up mileage recently with a goal of running a 100 mile week, and have been hoping that this week I would be able to do it, but I won't make it this week, and I have decided that probably a 100 mile week is not the optimum distance for me to be running. I have found that my body is becomming accustomed to going the longer slower distance, and it is getting harder to do fast spurts. My body doesn't want to cooperate. It wants to stay stuck at the slower pace.
This afternoon I ran 5 miles on the treadmill. I was a little sore from running the stairs this morning.
I ran an easy 10 miles this morning. It was kind of sad because today is my last day to run here in Singapore. It has only been a couple of months but so much has happened here that it seems like such a long time ago that I took my first run here. I was too scared to run outside by myself when I first arrived, so I did all of my running then on the treadmill. I loved my experience here in Singapore, but I won't be missing the heat and humidity. I couldn't live here.
This afternoon I ran 5 miles on the treadmill. I didn't make it to 100 miles this week, but close.
I was hoping to see Mr. Teo at the fitness center today, but he wasn't there. I hope he is there tomorrow. I want to say goodbye before I leave on Monday morning.
Well, today is my last full day here in Singapore.
I have really had a fun time. I am so thankfull to my unlce and aunt for letting me stay this last couple of months. Also a big thanks to my cousin.
No running today. I will go to the fitness center this afternoon to see if I can say goodbye to Mr. Teo. I hope he is there today.
My life is really going to change in the next couple of months. I am not sure when or where I will be able to run next time.
When I get back to the USA I will bae attending my mom's wedding. Then I will be going to Illinois with my grandparents. We will be going by car, so i should be able to see a lot of interesting places on the way.
So goodbye for now, until I am settled and am able to write again.
Ran 3 very easy miles this morning before I leave with my grandparents. It was the first time for me to run in over a week. I felt very fresh though.
My grandparents and I are leaving today to go to their home in Illinois. We are headed to Spokane today. Along the way to Illinois I hope to be able to see some historical sights etc. I hope to go to Eisenhower Library in Kansas, I want to go to Hannibal Missouri, and Springfield Illinois. If any one knows of any other interesting historical sights... let me know.
Ran 3 miles on the treadmill at the hotel this evening.
We had a long drive today. Went from Spokane to Boise Idaho. We drove though some very beautiful country.
I am really, really excited for the next couple of days.
Today we got an early start from Boise and drove to Salt Lake. After checking in to the hotel, my grandfather and I went to City Creek Canyon and ran. It was quite windy and cloudy. I was afraid it might rain but it didn't. It was nice running in the canyon again.
It was my first time running with my grandfather. He used to be a sub 3 marathon runner. He still runs, and was much faster than I would have imagined. I think my mom must have learned a lot of what she knows about running from him.
Later in the evening, we went to the "Roof" restaurant at the Joseph Smith Building. It was great! Ate too much though.
This morning we took a drive up to Alta. It was my first time there and it was beautiful. We hiked a little and it was great. Was hoping to see a moose but unfortunately didn't see one.
In the afternoon we went to Temple Square for a tour.
This evening we are goint to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.
Headed to Denver tomorrow.
Arrived in Champaign Illinois late last night. It was sure hot on the way here.
It seems a little cooler this morning.
I ran an easy 5 miles today. My grandfather told me about a good route to run, so I tried it. It was nice, and it seems very nice here for running. I averaged aout 7:00 per mile.
Feels nice and cool here in the morning.
Ran 5 miles at 6:30 per mile pace. Felt easy.
Nice morning for running.
I ran 5 miles at 6:15 per mile pace. Felt good.
My grandfather has been trying to help me with my breathing. He says I am breathing too much. I need to be more relaxed in my breathing and in that way I will get more oxygen. I have been trying and I do think it is making a difference.
Very easy 5 mile run today at 7:10 per mile pace.
I feel I need to set some new goals. I reached my goal for the summer while I was in Singapore, and now it seems I have no purpose in my running. Bret on the blog suggested a month or so ago that I try to see how fast I could run a mile. I have to think about it.
Ran 5 miles this morning at a fairly good pace of 6:30 per mile.
I was thinking today that I would love to run some hills so I was looking around for some hills. I don't think there is a single hill around here. Every morning I run past the Memorial Stadium where the University of Illinois plays football. The gate was open so I went inside. I thought about running the stadium steps, but I was ony inside for 10 minutes and security showed up and told me I was trespassing and asked me to leave. So I guess there will be no running hills here.
Did a very easy 5 miles today at about 7:20 per mile pace. I am not good with dogs, and on the 5-mile route that I run here there are always some dogs loose. They haven't bothered me until today when all of a sudden they got upset and started barking and coming after me. Not really sure what the best way to handle that is, whether to stop or keep going. Today I stopped and walked until they stopped barking and stopped following me.
This morning after I ran I helped my grandfather dig dandelions out of his lawn. First time I have dug dandelions. It was tough on my back bending over for so long.
While we were digging we talked about running and racing. I mentioned to him that my mother doesn't like me racing. After talking to my grandfather I think I finally know why.
Apparently when my mother was my age and was in high school she ran track on the high school team in Texas where she was living. She was fast. In some kind of invitational race she was running the mile and was so far ahead of everyone and broke the state record or regional record or something like that. But they said she stepped off of the track and disqualified her. She argued that she had not stepped off the track, but they did not listen to her. So she didn't get the win or the record. She though that they didn't want her to have the record because she was Asian and not caucasian. Anyway, she quit the team and never ran a race again. However she kept running on her own and training and my grandfather says she was always very fast.
Anyway, I think she must still be holding a gudge over that and doesn't want me racing. At least now I know why she is against racing, but it is not fair for me for her to not to want me to race.
I made creme puffs with my grandmother. They turned out really delicious.
My grandmother is a wonderful cook!
This was the longest I have run in a long time.
I first ran 5 miles with my grandfather at 7:30 per mile pace, and then finished off the last 5 miles by myself at about 7:00 per mile pace. Felt good.
I have been a little sore. My grandfather has been having me do some strength exercises for my hamstrings, quads, etc. I am not used to the extra exercises yet.
