Running Accomplishments:

I have just recently started running.  I ran my first race on April 29, 2017  It was a 5K race in Singapore.  My time was 18:37.4.  I hope to continue running for enjoyment for a long time, and run in races occasionally.

Since my first race I have lowered my 5K time to 17:47.58 (June 30, 2017, Singapore)

And then again in August 2017 (while staying with my grandparents in Champaign, Ill.) I lowered my 5K time again to 17:19 (non-certified course, could have been longer or shorter, but probably fairly close).

I have also run 61 sec for  400m, and 2:13 for 800m.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to increase my training and become faster.  I would eventually like to become the fastest in my age group.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would love to continue running as long as I can.

I am Vietnamese-American and I am 15 years old.  I am home schooled so do not run on a team.

I started running in the Fall of 2016 when my mom and I were living in Salt Lake City.

 I love running everyday.

My favorite subjects are History and Math.

I would love to be a history teacher or math teacher someday.

I am currently (since Oct 2017) living in Japan because my step-father, who is an architect, is working here for 3 years on a large project.

This morning my grandfather and I ran 3 miles together at a pace of 7:00 to 7:10 per mile.  I am surprised my grandfather can run so fast since he is over 60 years old.

After that, I ran 4 x 800m at 2:30 to 2:45 with a 400 m slow run in between.  It was the first fast running I have done since being back in the USA, so I didn't want to push it too hard.

After that I ran about 4 miles very easy at 8:00 per mile pace to reach 10 miles.

My grandfather has been having me do some strength exercises, and I am sore from that.  He says it will take about a week to get used to it, then it won't hurt any more.

I was feeling really tired this morning and didn't want to go running, but I was finally able to get out the door.  My grandfather and I did a very asy 10 miles at about 8:00 per mile pace.

I have been so tired lately, and I think it is because I have not been sleeping well.  I haven' t had a good night sleep since returning to the USA.  At night I always start worying about the future changes in my life when summer is over.

I think being so tired is affecting my running and other aspects of my life.  I just haven't had a desire to do much of anything including running.  My heart is just not into it right now.

Felt like a fast run today.  I ran 5 miles at 6:05 to 6:10 per mile pace.

Then I finished up with 5 more miles with my grandfather at about 8:00 per mile pace.

Every morning when we are running, we see a boy on the other side of the street running in the other direction.  Today he came over and said hello and wanted to know if I ran for the high school.   I told him no.  He said he wants to run cross-country for the high school.  Last year he tried out but didn't make the cut.  He has try-outs next week.  I hope he makes it.  He is really cute, and when we were talking with him I started thinking about my cousin in Singapore.  She would have been all over him.

Hard workout today.

I ran 10 x 400 meters at 70 to 75 with 200 meters recovery run.  It has been a while since I have done something like this and I could tell.  My body was hating it.

Did an easy run after at a pace of about 8:00 per mile to complete 10 miles.

One good body is getting used to the strengthening exercises my grandfather has me do.  I no longer have muscle soreness from doing them. (I guess that is good.)

Legs felt very heavy today from yesterday's workout.  My grandfather wanted to run 15 miles today, but I was not up for 15, so I ran the first 10 with him at a very easy pace of 8:00 per mile.

This morning I ran a 5K time trial with my grandfather doing the timing.  I was kind of nervous before starting, because my training hasn't been that great lately.  It was nice and cool but a little humid.  I finished in a time that tied my personal record that I set in Singapore.  If I know I was going to be at the same time, I could have found some energy from somewhere to have finished much faster.  Oh well.  I was very pleased with the result, because I was running this all alone.

After wards my grandfather and I ran to complete 10 miles.  We started out at 8:00 per mile and each mile gradually increased the speed, and finished the last mile in 6:30.

Today's workout was a confidence builder.

(One thing I have noticed.  Last week I did 60 miles of running.  I have found that for me 50 to 60 miles is the optimal distance.  When I put in a 100-mile week, I found that I was not able to put 100% into my harder workouts.  I think I will try to stick with around 60 miles per week for a while.)

Ran an easy 10 miles today with my grandfather at 7:30 to 8:00 per mile pace.

We had take-out Chinese food last night, and there were some fotune cookies included.  I at two of the fortune cookies and the fortunes inside were:

"A lifetime of happiness lies ahead of you."  ( I surely hope so!)

"Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction."

The second fortune seemed to be speaking directly to me.  When I was in Singapore I set a goal that I wanted to reach for the summer.  I then set monthly, weekly and daily goals to reach the main goal.  It gave me some good direction and purpose for why I was training.  After I reached my goal much sooner than I had expected, I never set a new goal.  I have been putting in a lot of effort, but I recently haven't had any purpose or direction.  I need to set a new goal and become more focused again.

I need to do the same for my schooling as well.  Since I have been away from my mom, my schooling has become a little unfocused.

I need to get some direction back, not only in my running and schooling, but also in many other aspects of my life.

Ran 10 miles with my grandfather.  Started out at about 7:30 per mile pace beut ended closer to 7:00 per mile.

It is funny when I run with my grandfather, he always stays about a half of a body length in front of me.  When I try to come up right along side, he seems to speed up to get in front again.  So when ever we run together the pace gets faster and faster.  Must be a male thing to have to be in the lead.

Today I ran 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 400m, 200m, 100m fast with short recovery runs in between.  I did that two times.  Then I did some easy running to complete 10 miles.

It has been another great week running.

I talked with my mother last night.  I guess my step-father has left for Japan.  My mother has wrapped up her work, and is flying here tomorrow and will be here for a couple of weeks.  Then we will fly back to Seattle and then to Japan in September.

My mother arrived here today.

It is good to be with her.  It seems like such a long time since we have been able to sit down and talk a lot.

We talked about a lot of things that have happened during the summer.

Some things she was very pleased about, others not so much.

As a result of our talk, I will be taking a break (forced break) from the blog here.

I have really appreciated everyone here on the blog.  If it weren't for all of you I never would have improved as much or had the excitement that I have had for running.

I will miss everyone here.  I wish you all the best.

Those who have my e-mail address, I would enjoy hearing from you from time to time.

Take care and RUN FAST!!
