( I surely hope so!)

"Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction."

The second fortune seemed to be speaking directly to me. When I was in Singapore I set a goal that I wanted to reach for the summer. I then set monthly, weekly and daily goals to reach the main goal. It gave me some good direction and purpose for why I was training. After I reached my goal much sooner than I had expected, I never set a new goal. I have been putting in a lot of effort, but I recently haven't had any purpose or direction. I need to set a new goal and become more focused again.

I need to do the same for my schooling as well. Since I have been away from my mom, my schooling has become a little unfocused.

I need to get some direction back, not only in my running and schooling, but also in many other aspects of my life.
Tue, 08 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Aug 07, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-07-2017.html
This morning I ran a 5K time trial with my grandfather doing the timing. I was kind of nervous before starting, because my training hasn't been that great lately. It was nice and cool but a little humid. I finished in a time that tied my personal record that I set in Singapore. If I know I was going to be at the same time, I could have found some energy from somewhere to have finished much faster. Oh well. I was very pleased with the result, because I was running this all alone.

After wards my grandfather and I ran to complete 10 miles. We started out at 8:00 per mile and each mile gradually increased the speed, and finished the last mile in 6:30.

Today's workout was a confidence builder.

(One thing I have noticed. Last week I did 60 miles of running. I have found that for me 50 to 60 miles is the optimal distance. When I put in a 100-mile week, I found that I was not able to put 100% into my harder workouts. I think I will try to stick with around 60 miles per week for a while.)
Mon, 07 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Aug 05, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-05-2017.html
Legs felt very heavy today from yesterday's workout. My grandfather wanted to run 15 miles today, but I was not up for 15, so I ran the first 10 with him at a very easy pace of 8:00 per mile.
Sat, 05 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Aug 04, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-04-2017.html
Hard workout today.

I ran 10 x 400 meters at 70 to 75 with 200 meters recovery run. It has been a while since I have done something like this and I could tell. My body was hating it.

Did an easy run after at a pace of about 8:00 per mile to complete 10 miles.

One good thing...my body is getting used to the strengthening exercises my grandfather has me do. I no longer have muscle soreness from doing them. (I guess that is good.)
Fri, 04 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Aug 03, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-03-2017.html
Felt like a fast run today. I ran 5 miles at 6:05 to 6:10 per mile pace.

Then I finished up with 5 more miles with my grandfather at about 8:00 per mile pace.

Every morning when we are running, we see a boy on the other side of the street running in the other direction. Today he came over and said hello and wanted to know if I ran for the high school. I told him no. He said he wants to run cross-country for the high school. Last year he tried out but didn't make the cut. He has try-outs next week. I hope he makes it. He is really cute, and when we were talking with him I started thinking about my cousin in Singapore. She would have been all over him.
Thu, 03 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Aug 02, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-02-2017.html
I was feeling really tired this morning and didn't want to go running, but I was finally able to get out the door. My grandfather and I did a very asy 10 miles at about 8:00 per mile pace.

I have been so tired lately, and I think it is because I have not been sleeping well. I haven' t had a good night sleep since returning to the USA. At night I always start worying about the future changes in my life when summer is over.

I think being so tired is affecting my running and other aspects of my life. I just haven't had a desire to do much of anything including running. My heart is just not into it right now.
Wed, 02 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Aug 01, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-08-01-2017.html
This morning my grandfather and I ran 3 miles together at a pace of 7:00 to 7:10 per mile. I am surprised my grandfather can run so fast since he is over 60 years old.

After that, I ran 4 x 800m at 2:30 to 2:45 with a 400 m slow run in between. It was the first fast running I have done since being back in the USA, so I didn't want to push it too hard.

After that I ran about 4 miles very easy at 8:00 per mile pace to reach 10 miles.

My grandfather has been having me do some strength exercises, and I am sore from that. He says it will take about a week to get used to it, then it won't hurt any more.
Tue, 01 Aug 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 31, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-31-2017.html
This was the longest I have run in a long time.

I first ran 5 miles with my grandfather at 7:30 per mile pace, and then finished off the last 5 miles by myself at about 7:00 per mile pace. Felt good.

I have been a little sore. My grandfather has been having me do some strength exercises for my hamstrings, quads, etc. I am not used to the extra exercises yet.
Mon, 31 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Sun, Jul 30, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-30-2017.html
I made creme puffs with my grandmother. They turned out really delicious.

My grandmother is a wonderful cook!
Sun, 30 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Sat, Jul 29, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-29-2017.html
Did a very easy 5 miles today at about 7:20 per mile pace. I am not good with dogs, and on the 5-mile route that I run here there are always some dogs loose. They haven't bothered me until today when all of a sudden they got upset and started barking and coming after me. Not really sure what the best way to handle that is, whether to stop or keep going. Today I stopped and walked until they stopped barking and stopped following me.

This morning after I ran I helped my grandfather dig dandelions out of his lawn. First time I have dug dandelions. It was tough on my back bending over for so long.

While we were digging we talked about running and racing. I mentioned to him that my mother doesn't like me racing. After talking to my grandfather I think I finally know why.

Apparently when my mother was my age and was in high school she ran track on the high school team in Texas where she was living. She was fast. In some kind of invitational race she was running the mile and was so far ahead of everyone and broke the state record or regional record or something like that. But they said she stepped off of the track and disqualified her. She argued that she had not stepped off the track, but they did not listen to her. So she didn't get the win or the record. She though that they didn't want her to have the record because she was Asian and not caucasian. Anyway, she quit the team and never ran a race again. However she kept running on her own and training and my grandfather says she was always very fast.

Anyway, I think she must still be holding a gudge over that and doesn't want me racing. At least now I know why she is against racing, but it is not fair for me for her to not to want me to race.

Sat, 29 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Fri, Jul 28, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-28-2017.html
Ran 5 miles this morning at a fairly good pace of 6:30 per mile.

I was thinking today that I would love to run some hills so I was looking around for some hills. I don't think there is a single hill around here. Every morning I run past the Memorial Stadium where the University of Illinois plays football. The gate was open so I went inside. I thought about running the stadium steps, but I was ony inside for 10 minutes and security showed up and told me I was trespassing and asked me to leave. So I guess there will be no running hills here.
Fri, 28 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Thu, Jul 27, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-27-2017.html
Very easy 5 mile run today at 7:10 per mile pace.

I feel I need to set some new goals. I reached my goal for the summer while I was in Singapore, and now it seems I have no purpose in my running. Bret on the blog suggested a month or so ago that I try to see how fast I could run a mile. I have to think about it.
Thu, 27 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Wed, Jul 26, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-26-2017.html
Nice morning for running.

I ran 5 miles at 6:15 per mile pace. Felt good.

My grandfather has been trying to help me with my breathing. He says I am breathing too much. I need to be more relaxed in my breathing and in that way I will get more oxygen. I have been trying and I do think it is making a difference.

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Jul 25, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-25-2017.html
Feels nice and cool here in the morning.

Ran 5 miles at 6:30 per mile pace. Felt easy.
Tue, 25 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 24, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-24-2017.html
Arrived in Champaign Illinois late last night. It was sure hot on the way here.

It seems a little cooler this morning.

I ran an easy 5 miles today. restaurant at the Joseph Smith Building. It was great! Ate too much though.
Wed, 19 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Tue, Jul 18, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-18-2017.html
Ran 3 miles on the treadmill at the hotel this evening.

We had a long drive today. Went from Spokane to Boise Idaho. We drove though some very beautiful country.

I am really, really excited for the next couple of days.
Tue, 18 Jul 2017 06:00:00 Mon, Jul 17, 2017 http://EvaS.fastrunningblog.com/blog-07-17-2017.html
Ran 3 very easy miles this morning before I leave with my grandparents. It was the first time for me to run in over a week. I felt very fresh though.

My grandparents and I are leaving today to go to their home in Illinois. We are headed to Spokane today. Along the way to Illinois I hope to be able to see some historical sights etc.
